According to reports, Liverpool has been offered the option to re-sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona on a free transfer this transfer window.
In January 2018, the Brazilian forward moved from Merseyside to Catalonia for a nine-figure fee, but his two-and-a-half year stay at Camp Nou has been disappointing.
Coutinho was given a new lease on life by Ronald Koeman at the start of the 2020-21 season, but a catastrophic knee injury forced him to miss the second part of the season, leaving Barcelona open to bids.
According to AS, Barcelona owes Liverpool £50 million as a result of Coutinho's move to Camp Nou, and the club is considering allowing the South American re-sign for the Reds for free in order to clear the debt.
Coutinho is still admired in the Liverpool locker room, according to the article, but his recent injury issues may cause Anfield bosses to reconsider bringing him back.
Interested parties will allegedly have to wait until July to make a bid because the 28-year-old is still recovering from a knee ailment.
Since joining at Camp Nou in January 2018, the South American has failed to make an impact. His contract with Barca runs until June 2023.
