Real Madrid have confirmed that Austrian international David Alaba will join them on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.
After stating in February that he would leave Bayern at the end of his
contract this summer after turning down many offers of additional terms,
the versatile 28-year-old had been linked with Europe's elite teams.
Manchester City and Liverpool were among the clubs interested in signing
him, but Madrid swiftly emerged as the frontrunners.
Alaba has signed a five-year contract with the Spanish giants, according
to the club.
Alaba, who joined Bayern at the age of 17 and won 28 championships with the German club, is a versatile player who can play in central defense or midfield and is commonly used as a number 10 for his country.
After Zinedine Zidane's departure on Thursday, Alaba must now wait to find out who will be his coach at the Bernabeu.
After failing to defend their LaLiga title and being knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage, Zidane left the club for the second time, leaving them without a trophy for the first time in 11 seasons.
